Es gibt Coverversionen und es gibt Coverversionen. Erstere betonen die Gemeinsamkeiten zur Vorlage, lehnen sich stärker daran an und beziehen ihre Legitimität direkt aus der Originalversion. Die anderen beziehen sich zwar auch auf das Original, gehen aber weitgehend eigene Wege. Derek Allen, der sich wohl als Diplos Buddy bezeichnen darf, schafft es irgendwie, einen Mittelweg zu gehen. Obwohl er sehr vieles beibehält, holt er das gewohnt ska-postpunkige Stück durch Stimmeffekte und wummernde Dubstep-Synthies ins Hier und Jetzt. Es war wirklich einmal Zeit, dass Stings geisterhafte Lyrics ein Update erhalten und erneut um die Welt gehen. Denn aktuell und beängstigend sind sie auch noch nach dem Kalten Krieg.

Den akzeptablen bis guten Rest der EP gibts hier als Stream und käuflich erwerben kann man es da auch. "We are gone" ist leicht kitschig, trieft nur so von Auto-Tune und enthält ein ziemlich käsiges Sample aus dem Soundtrack zum Film Amelie, wenn ich mich richtig besinne. Zuerst habe ich allerdings an Robert Miles denken müssen....)
Und unten noch die Version von Sting, der für diese Performance den Beinamen "Zappelphilipp" erhalten müsste.
